  1. In all fairness, Savoy is just meeting consumer need. The person who created this consumer need is Henry Ford from Detroit, MI. For example, the Rouge River has got to be the most polluted river in the State of Michigan as a result of the industry the Ford family created. I highly doubt Mr. Sperry & Mr. Pangborn are trying to pollute Adrian the way Henry Ford has polluted Detroit. They are not breaking any laws, they are just trying to earn a living. They don't disrespect you, but you seem to enjoy pointing fingers at them and portray that somehow they breaking the law. Yes, at first I was extremely upset with them, but after talking to them face to face and letting them know my concerns and listening to their point of view, I understand and respect what they do for a living.

    1. I agree with you, to a point. Savoy does have a right to do business and they certainly have most of the laws, regulations and regulators on their side. However, local and state officials who rubber stamped this activity have turned a blind eye to environmental issues that could endanger our landscape and our health. A majority of these wells are located in the worst possible areas.
You are a dreamer if you think 'accidents' will not occur. Do you pay attention to the news? Spills, explosions, leaks etc happen almost daily.
And what if there was an accident(s)? Are we prepared? No, we are not.
Every parcel of city property was leased to Savoy w/o citizen approval for this madness. And as a tax payer I will receive nothing. Property values will decrease even further and health risks will multiply.
I'm interested in your face to face meeting w/ Sperry. What did he say, what concerns of yours were addressed?
To me, Savoy has not acknowledged anything publicly.

    2. Henry Ford? Wow, you might stretching it a bit. Back then there was no EPA, DEQ, zero rules and regs. The past century responsible industrialists have instituted improved air and water pollution practices. In addition,Ford provided much more for its community than Savoy does for Adrian. Thousands of jobs, sponsoring community events, et al. A vital part of the Motor City. Nope Savoy will come in exploit our natural habitat, suck the last drop of crude and then leave without nary a word
Finally,Lenawee County relies on Wolf Creek and River Raisin much more than Detroit does with the Rouge River.
I can't imagine Savoy, or any other company purposely polluting, but why do they choose high groundwater areas to drill?

  2. I agree with the 2nd anonymous and appreciate all the information...I am curious about the need for anonymity. Are there repercussions involved for strong opinions?

  4. Sorry, my first attempt at this, I suspect blogging would be detrimental to my mental health if done too often. This is my perspective on what's happening at the Howell Hwy. site which is some hundreds of yards down no-name (at least I've never heard a name) crik from my home. According to my recollection of a book tv talk by Jeremy Rivkin, when the west made a semi-conscious decision to emphasize the internal combustion engine over electric autos (post WWI) the return on a barrel of energy spent in oil extraction was about 100-1--that is for a barrel spent you got 100. That ratio is now 7 or 8 to 1 as evidenced by the drilling in areas previously considered marginal, such as "my back yard". He says we have reached the tipping point, that price rises will collapse above a certain level because the market won't support them (sound familiar?). If we don't come up with a national consensus on sensible energy policy we are in trouble on all sorts of levels including environmental. I worke the oil patch in LA in the 80's (after "voting with my feet" til I could get back to America) and did things to keep my job as a deckhand that still make me cringe sometimes. I've always said offshore drilling in the Great Lakes might turn me into some sort of eco--well, I wouldn't say the t-word, maybe the a for activist word--I think I might be willing to be led but I'm too lazy to try to lead--I cite my recollection of the c-span talk because I've never tracked down and read Rivkin's book. I appreciate the effort put in by the creator(s) of this blog and others who are bird-dogging the operation at Heritage (how ironic) Park.

  6. there are not five seperators only three. three wells three seperators. tell me something tom how do you get around. horse and buggy. maybe the wind took you there. maybe the sun carried you. maybe you have magic ferry dust. it is ok to "shit" in other peoples backyard for you to live the lifestye you do. this WILL be good for the community. why dont you talk about the water wells drilled on these sites where they constanly monitor the ground water. there are probably at least three water wells drilled by each one of these well for that purpose only! when you start living the lifestyle like the amish do you might have an argument but you wouldnt have a blogspot now would you. drill baby drill.

    1. Hey OILguy- Don't you have a friend who could check your drivel before you post it? Your disregard for grammar and spelling is indeed very sad. I feel sorry for you.

  8. Oilfield Trashette - I decided to let this comment through to honor that you moved to give yourself at least a name - although you still lack an identity. It is also an improvement that you did not personally attack me - now we just have to work on that foul language still - so next time you use the s*** word - your comment will not be published.
Now to your argument - yes, you are right, it is a shame how much poisonous stuff is in our food - some from legal "additives" - others from bad manufacturing - or bad farming - and again others from environmental pollution - such as oil extraction processes. You see, you cannot escape. It gets back to you, you cannot throw it away - there is no "away"!
On another train of thought, I am not sure what is better or worse - the food industry - or the energy industry...
This blog happens to focus on the energy industry - that is the main reason why I do not write much about big ag.

  9. Does anyone know how far away is safe to live from this drilling? I know you can smell it quite far away which is bad enough, I live within 4 miles of one, if it contaminates the ground water would our well be effected? Our property prices have went down enough, nobody is going to want to live anywhere near this! It all comes down to greed pure and simple. Offer someone enough money and they don't care who or what they're harming. Hence the person bragging about making six figures, I'm pretty sure they don't have one in their backyard.

  10. the assumption that I don't have wells in my backyard is wrong, very wrong as a matter of fact. I have anthrim wells and niagrin wells. The closest one being only 500 yards from my house. I do not receive any royalties from these wells and I have no complaints about them. I also have a salt water disposal just a little closer than the wells themselves. I also purchased this house knowing all that equiptment was there. I have the best drinking water from a ground well and have had it tested, thank you very much!
